Westwoodside Lakes are mature, picturesque, mixed fisheries located on the border of South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, just outside the village of Westwoodside. It comprises two lakes Mirlwyn the larger of the two & Colwyn which features a central island.
Ashfield Angling Club will be taking over the fishing rights on this water with effect from the 1st April 2020. We have been working closely with Ashfield and the land owner to ensure a smooth transition for members. Ashfield members have been permitted to fish the water since the 1st January 2020.
On the 19th February we handed over responsibility for the bailiffing and management of the fishery to the Ashfield Team. The signage at the water has been changed to reflect the new position.
All SYPAC Members can contiune to fish the lakes until midnight on the 31st March 2020 and thereafter those who take up the membership offer from Ashfield AC.
Mirlwyn Lakes was developed by the landowner, the late Colin Snell, at the end of the nineties and stocked with silver fish and carp. Our Club quickly took up a licence on the fishing rights and worked closely with the landowner to develop and stock Colwyn Lake, again with silver fish and carp.
In the early days the lakes were quite stark with young saplings sheltering in their plastic protection sheaths support by wooden stakes. Aquatic plants were introduced, the eco system continued to develop and the fish thrived.
The fish stock, benefiting from supplementary introductions of both silver fish and carp over the years , is now mature with sizeable carp over 20 lbs, pike in the teens and quality silver fish.
The trees are mature and provide an abundance of shelter for anglers no matter what the weather and keep our bailiff(s) busy pruning and keeping them in good order.
