Transition to S Y P Angling Club

Ken Horsfield was Secretary of the Club from 1984 until 1991. A keen and committed angler Ken guided the Club through a significant period of organisational change and a tight financial position.

'Hi Bob,

In reply to your request. The history of SYPAC started before South Yorkshire. Back in 1970 a group of anglers from the then Sheffield and Rotherham Constabulary led by a P.S.Terry Jowle acquired the pond at Barlborough.

I joined in 1971 and became a member in 1972 fishing the pond regularly.

In 1984 South Yorks was formed and in 1984 due to Terry's retirement I became secretary / treasurer.
SYP sports section did not for various reasons wish to support the club at this time mainly because it involved the renting of land / fishing rights and no financial help was forthcoming. I made several attempts to gain funding but I was turned down every time.
The club continued to be known as the Sheffield and Rotherham Police Angling Club as the Sports and Social would not embrace it for the reasons given, however membership was open to all members of the SYP  but only had fishing rights at Barlborough. All subs going to pay for the rent of the pond and sporting land rates to Derbyshire C.C

In the late 80s I undertook the task of emptying the pond and having it dredged out, this was financed by the waiving of the rent by the owners for two years. All the fish were removed stored and returned by the environment agency.

In 1991 I was retired early and I passed everything onto Mark . The books membership cards and what cash there was left.

It was at this time that you took over as chair of the Sports and Social and everything changed overnight.

You and Mark know the details from this date.

All the best KEN'
