River Dearne

Description

The club lease a section of the River Dearne at Bolton Ings.

This is a much-improved water with a good head of silver fish, especially chub. There is hard surface parking inside the gateway and in winter the ground can get very wet – it may be advisable to park on the hard standing and walk along the banks.

In summer the ground dries out very well and after the grass is cut you can drive and park right alongside the river. There are a number of bends and glides and the venue will respond well to the stick float and the feeder.  When you arrive its worth walking along the river and pre – baiting about 5 or 6 swims – once you get back to the first swim the chub will be feeding. The water runs very clear in summer and you may need to take a stalking approach not to scare the fish.

On a recent visit I counted three Kingfishers on the bank, a sign of a healthy system.  In summer the banks can get overgrown so its best to walk the section in winter and then you will have an excellent idea of the layout and the best glides.
