General Directions

1. Barnby Wharf - from the A1 take the A620 (Straight Mile) towards Retford travelling East. Continue on the A620 for just over a mile and you will see HM Prison Ranby on the left. Take the first left turn after the prison signposted Barnby Moor continue for just less than a mile and you will reach a bridge (no 53) over the canal – immediately over the bridge turn right and park on the hard standing. The Club water commences to the right of the car park after bridge 53.  

2. The BarracksCars can be parked on Old Blyth Road alongside the A1 – the A1 is on the left and the canal on the right. Further details available on the club website www.sypac.co.uk

3. Green Mile Lane - 4 cars can be parked near the bridge on the northern side of the bridge.

4. In the Estate near the Barracks Stretch - 6 cars can be parked at the side of the estate road.

3 & 4 above are accesses by travelling from Barnby Wharf towards Barnby Moor and taking the first left signed A1. After about 1/4 mile take the tarmac road into the Estate, go by Ranby Hall and pass the farm on your left. You will come to a cross roads, left is Green Mile Lane and takes you to the bridge, care is needed to negotiate the ruts.

To get to the Barracks Stretch do not turn left go at the cross roads but go straight ahead, after a while the roads bends to the right the straightens out, the canal is on the left. Park in the natural 'pulls ins' and avoid obstructing the road. The gate at the end of this track giving access to to Blyth Road at the side of the A1 is kept locked at all times.

Rules  - In addition to normal club rules -  rules specific to this location apply. Vehicles must be sensibly parked and not obstruct access to tracks on the Estate. Less able anglers should be given access to roadside pegs. There is no closed season. Guest day permits are only issued to full club members not Ranby Estate Only Members. Keep nets are allowed. No litter, fires lead weights, night fishing, camping or barbed hooks. No fish including pike to be removed from the water.


Fishing Information –   the canal contains a good head of mixed coarse fish – a roving approach may be preferably with pre – baiting on a number of swims. This may be the preferred method for winter chub fishing.
