History

The South Yorkshire Police Angling Club was started in 1970 by a small group of committed
police officers who were members of the Sheffield & Rotherham Angling Section.

This was a section of the then Sheffield & Rotherham Constabulary Sports and Social Club, a
fairly new organisation formed in 1967 when the City of Sheffield Police and the Rotherham
Borough Police amalgamated and the sports and social clubs of the two separate forces came
together.

In those days the Angling Section was primarily concerned with match fishing, but the idea
of a club with its own water where members, their families, friends (associate members)
and guests could fish began to germinate.

Ultimately the Club split away from the match fishing section and adopted its own identity
of a Club committed to leisure and social angling with its own waters.

Today the South Yorkshire Police Sports and Social Club has four fishing sections SYPAC,
Match Fishing, Sea Fishing and Fly Fishing. Further information on these sections

The development of the Club since that first idea is told on the following pages of this
section of our site in the words of those responsible for steering the Club.
