Brookside Pond, Brampton

In the Spring of 2002, Brampton opened after a lot of effort and hard work.
Improving every year it is now full of fish and pond life, an excellent fishery for anglers of all
ages and abilities, but the pegs in the shallow section near the car park are ideal for juniors,
it is literally a fish a cast on warm summer days.

Description

Brampton has been developed as a silver coarse fishery and no carp have been stocked into this pond. The car park has been developed to provide off-road hard surface parking for some 20 vehicles. In addition 17 wooden platform type pegs and three very substantial double pegs constructed from railway sleepers have been installed. Toilet facilities are onsite from May to September. There is a hard path all around the pond to make for easy access and the three larger pegs are suitable for disabled anglers.
In 2002 the Club signed a 30 year lease on the fishing rights for this pond and included in that lease is a clause giving the Club the first right to but should the owner wish to sell his freehold interest in the pond.

Species and What Works

As stated above this is coarse fishery stocked only with silver fish. These include chub to 5 pounds, tench, crucian carp, roach and bream.

It is an ideal venue for both waggler and pole fishing.  The pond is an excellent venue for junior anglers who will catch a fish a cast in summer months – the rudd and roach feed up in the water and can be caught on the drop.

Some of the bigger fish are caught from the pegs at the rear of the pond – furthest from the car park and facing the car park. The water is deeper here and if you fish close in to the reed beds you will catch crucian carp, tench and bream. The bream have bred in recent years and there is a good head of skimmers – 2/3 years old.

The pond was also stocked with some large orfe (some still showing) and barbel from the EA at Calverton.

Despite not stocking with carp – some have found their way in and one rogue is now up to 8 – 10lbs – so don’t be surprised if you hook it.
